FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Are you part of/employed by the Sports and Tourism Authority?
A: No. Although MCYSPA’s history stems from that of an oversight committee of the Youth and Amateur Sports Committee of AZSTA, MCYSPA became a separate entity in 2003. AZSTA provided seed funding to support some of the initial work of the coalition, such as the GIS project, but MCYSPA is tasked with securing its own money from other sources.

Q: How is MCYSPA funded?
A: Through grant writing and request for funding, MCYSPA has received support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Arizona Sports & Tourism Authority, Arizona Cardinals, Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust, Arizona Community Foundation, BHHS Legacy Foundation, and Suncor Development.

Q: What type of funding does MCYSPA offer?
A: MCYSPA does not have discretionary funds of its own to allocate to the community, but does assist in the administration of two esteemed grants within the Maricopa County community. The Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority Youth and Amateur Sport Grant and the Summer Youth Program Fund.
