AZSTA Grant Program
Administration of the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority (AZSTA) Youth and Amateur Sports Biennial Grant:
The partnership between MCYSPA and the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority (AZSTA) continues to provide a mechanism for meaningful input from important stakeholder groups. This broad range of leaders from the private, public and independent sectors, lend insight to community needs as well as opportunities for leveraging resources both locally and nationally.
The Youth and Amateur Sports Biennial Grant Program was established with the creation of AZSTA to support the acquisition of land, construction, financing, furnishing, improving, marketing or promoting the use of community youth and amateur sports facilities in Maricopa County.
Grants are based on projects serving Youth and Amateur Sports and require a demonstration of financial need, leveraged community partnerships, and a demonstrated benefit to a local community in Maricopa County.
Upon fulfilling other AZSTA related funding; the Youth and Amateur Sports Account began at $1,000,000 the first year of collecting taxes and will grow annually by $100,000 over the 30 years the taxes are collected. In total, it is projected that a minimum of $73.5 will be made available for funding youth and amateur and recreation facilities, over the next 30 years, subject to a minimum local match of 50 cents on the dollar. To the extent the Authority can encourage and solicit proposals that call for less than two-thirds funding from the Authority, we will be able to leverage our dollars and increase the overall investment in youth and amateur sports facilities and programs.
MCYSPA is proud to receive the acknowledgement by AZSTA Board of Directors in the administrative role in this grant process. In the most recent Biennial Grant Cycle, 100% of the projects recommended by MCYSPA were approved, allocating approximately 2.4 million dollars into the community for youth sports facilities and programs.
